During the quarantine of the last years, when I couldn’t make it to the sewing room or wanted to spend time with my family but needed my hands to be busy, I discovered English Paper Piecing (EPP). This has been a revelation to me as I hate any form of hand sewing, I never hand sew binding unless I have to, my hand embroidery looks like a kindergartener’s drawing and I have big hands! I watched a lot videos during those months learning the techniques and tried a small wall hanging. I was hooked! I completed that small project and now I am working on a whole quilt project.
English Paper piecing is a technique that wraps fabric around small shaped paper and hand sewn together to make endless combinations of beautiful precision blocks. This class will introduce you to a form of piecing that is very precise but surprisingly easy. You will learn the basic techniques of EPP to complete a hexagon flower mug rug. We will use the glue basting method that makes for ease of construction. When you finish the class, you will have the skills and confidence to take on most EPP patterns.

Instructor Bio: | My passion for sewing and quilting started after an 8th grade Home Ec class. I loved it so much that I spent hours in the local fabric store planning my next project which led the owner to offering me a summer job. Throughout the years I have honed my skills be taking classes from various teachers around the area. I myself have taught preschool and kindergarten for 15 years and several levels of bible classes for 30 years. I love meeting a young person that just got their first sewing machine and leading them through this wonderful craft. Recently I purchased a midarm and quilting frame and my learning curve took another steep climb! My day isn't complete if I haven't made it to my sewing room. Sewing has given me much joy and peace walking through the different paths of my life. |
